MEMBERSHIP DUES
If you paid your dues last semester, then you are good for the calendar year. If you are a new member or did not pay dues last semester, you must pay $80 for the calendar year. We will take cash or check, and all checks are to made out to ISU PRSSA. Deadline is Oct. 16.

TRANSFERRING TO THE PR MAJOR?
The PR major at ISU is extremely competitive and can be difficult to transfer into. Be sure you do everything you can to ensure you are accepted!
  1. Attend a School of Communication informational meeting (mandatory)
    • Friday, September 28th, 10:00am
    • Monday, October 1st, 11:00am
  2. Write your essay and REVISE, REWRITE, REPEAT!
    • People you can/should run your essay past for feedback: family, your roommates, School of Com faculty, grad students, the ISU tutoring center, Katie, etc!
  3. Submit on My.IllinoisState.edu under Academics BY OCTOBER 1

It’s that time of year to start searching for and applying to internships to gain real-world experience that will build your resume and expand on what you are learning in the classroom. As a dues-paying member, you have access to internship opportunities provided at the national level. We also provide our members with updated internship applications at our weekly meetings.
 
The School of Communication is looking for PR interns to help serve the School’s PR needs! A full internship description and instructions on how to apply are listed in an attachment below.
 
JoyRun is looking for interns to fulfill two internship positions. The Growth Marketing Intern will execute marketing campaigns, identify and establish partnerships with organizations to drive brand excitement and more. The Runner Marketing Associate will earn money doing runs with opportunities for bonuses, execute marketing campaigns and promotions with local business partners and more. Senator Richard Durbin offers an internship program for undergraduate students of all majors, and graduate and law students who are interested in experiencing the day-to-day operations of a Senator's office. Applications for the Spring 2019 internships are now open! Internship opportunities are in Illinois and Washington, D.C. Tasks include conducting legislative research, assisting with casework matters, working with the press team and more. This is the perfect internship for those interested in political public relations! To learn more, click here.  

The public relations firm Ketchum is looking for interns for its 2019 Summer Fellows Program. During the internship, individuals will work with clients, participate in agency events, write client materials and more. Ketchum’s application process involves an interactive application game! ​The Wall Street Journal, an American news organization, is currently looking for interns for several summer 2019 internship positions. Internships are in New York and include a News Design Internship, Reporting Internships in the Americas, Video Internship, Magazine Internship and more. PRSSA FALL BAKE SALE
Our Fall Bake sale is Monday, Oct. 22 and Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Fell Hall Lobby. We will sell fall/Halloween-themed baked goods such as brownies and cookies! We need people to bake desserts as well as help at the table while we’re selling them. We are also having a baking day on Oct. 21 at a few PRSSA members’ apartments to bake together! PRSA CENTRAL ILLINOIS CHAPTER DINNER
The Central Illinois PRSA Chapter is hosting a dinner on Oct. 3 in Champaign. The program is “How to Succeed—Ethically—in PR” and will include guest speaker Ron Culp, Consultant & Professional Director of the Public Relations and Advertising Program at DePaul University. NATIONAL CONFERENCE
National Conference is taking place Oct. 5 through Oct. 9 in Austin, Texas. Registration is $335 for dues-paying members. Attendees must register by THIS FRIDAY, Sept. 7.

National Conference is a great opportunity to network with other students and professionals, attend chapter and professional development sessions and workshops, listen to guest speakers, and visit local agencies. Students have the opportunity for potential reimbursement by participating in fundraising efforts.
