ANNOUCEMENTS:
 
STUDY ABROAD: NETHERLANDS
 
The summer 2017 study abroad program will be taking place at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningon from May 24 through June 16. Classes will be taught by professors in English and will explore multicultural competence and communication, the legal financial, and political aspects of the Eurozone, and European cultures from the business perspective. The 4-week program also includes excursions to selected destinations in The Netherlands, including Amsterdam. The study abroad program now counts for 6 academic credits. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Dr. Smudde: psmudde@ilstu.edu
 
CERTIFICATE IN PRINCIPLES OF PUBLIC RELATIONS: STAND OUT WHEN YOU START OUT
 
Graduating seniors must complete the computer-based exam 6 months before graduating or 6 months after graduating. The exam cost is $150 and the recommended online study course is $50. Online study materials can also be found on www.prcertificate.org. The Certificate in Principles of Public Relations is the stepping stone to Accreditation in Public Relations (APR). INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

FleishmanHillard is accepting applications from graduating seniors for the 2016 Alfred Fleishman Diversity Fellowship program Nov. 1 – March 1. Priority review will be given to those who apply before Feb. 1. Current fellows have had the opportunity to work on client projects, media relations, events, and new business pitches. Program includes: 6-12 month fellowship, competitive pay, challenging work experience in one of our U.S. offices, and senior level mentorship. If you are interested, please contact: DiversityFellowship@fleishman.com 

Ketchum is accepting applications for the 2017 Summer Fellowship Program. The application deadline is Wednesday, Feb 8. They are looking for candidates with strong writing capabilities, intellectual curiosity, awareness with current trends, impeccable multitasking abilities, an interest in digital, savvy with social media, and a strong work ethic. Qualified applicants will participate in a “game” of a variety of challenges that will measure creative, digital, writing, and general PR skills. Top applicants will then move on to the interview stage.

UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER SALE:

Thank you to everyone who helped decorate our ugly Christmas sweaters! Volunteers are needed on Monday, Dec. 5 and Tuesday Dec. 6 in Fell Hall from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Please let Sydney Holland or Elizabeth Lynch know if you are interested or sign up at chapter.

CLOTHING DRIVE:

It is the season of giving. We will be collecting clothing items in chapter now until Tuesday, Dec. 6. Preferably winter items such as coats, scarves, hats, sweaters, blankets, etc. The clothing items will be donated to families in need through Home Sweet Home Ministries, a local homeless shelter.

ATTENTION GRADUATING SENIORS:

Please let us know if you are graduating in December.

HIGH SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT:

Help us spread the word about how awesome PRSSA and the field of Public Relations is! If you are interested in giving a short presentation to your high school over Winter break, please let us know! We will provide you with all of the necessary resources for your presentation.

STUDY ROOM:

If you need somewhere to study for finals or work on group projects, we will be holding study hours in Fell 102 on Monday, Dec. 5 and Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

To serve in place of the bowling social, the November Fly check-in will require Fly members to meet with their fly partners outside of chapter by the end of the month. Attention National Conference attendees!
  1. To be reimbursed for hotel costs, you must turn in the following items to Dr. Smudde (Fell 449):
 
  • Hotel receipt
  • Registration receipt (paper located inside the white envelope you received at conference check it)
  • National Conference program (if you do not have the program, it can be printed off the National Conference website)
 
  1. Next, everyone will need to meet with Dr. Smudde to fill out a reimbursement form for your portion of the hotel costs.
  2. If you did not pay for your hotel costs up front at National Conference, then you will owe Audie what the grant did not cover:
 
  • 4 roommates: $17.68
  • 3 roommates: $23.49

The press officer and breaking news manager of the United States Olympic Committee, Craig Bohnert, will be speaking at 10 a.m. in State Farm Hall of Business room 57 on Friday, Nov. 11. There will be a meet and greet immediately following in the Fell Hall fireplace lounge.

BATEMAN CASE COMPETTION:
 
The Bateman Case is PRSSA’s premiere national case study competition for public relations students. This is an opportunity for students to apply their education and experience as they work towards developing a campaign to change the culture of mental health in America. PRSSA is currently searching for a team of 4 to 5 dues-paying members. The team must register by Nov. 7. Please contact prssa@ilstu.edu if you are interested in joining the team!
