Executive Board Applications

If you would like to apply for the 2015-2016 executive board, send your resume, cover letter, ranking of your top three positions, and optional letter of recommendation in one PDF to [email protected]. It is a great way to get involved and improve leadership skill. If you have any concerns, please talk to anyone or executive board or Dr. Smudde. Interviews will be scheduled in the order they are received. 

COM Week 2015 

COM Week 2015 is April 6–9 with 15 panels and five keynotes. This year’s theme is “Inspiring Innovation.” Download the official Illinois State University app for free in the iOS App Store or Google Play Store and retrieve the COM Week 2015 Guide. The Career Institute is from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 9 in the Brown Ballroom of the Bone Student Center. You may pre-register here.

Speaker

Rory Swikle, vice president at Ogilvy Public Relations, will speak before Chapter at 7 p.m. next Tuesday, April 7 as a part of COM Week. Chapter will continue as usual at 8:15 p.m. If you are not attending the speaker, please wait in the hall until the session is over.

Gift of Hope

Gift of Hope promotes the benefits of organ donations and registers new donors. Our event is 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 15. Please email the account if you are interested in volunteering. 

PRSA Dinner 

The next PRSA dinner is 6 p.m. Thursday, April 16 at the Bone Student Center. It is $25 to attend. Will Koch from COUNTRY Financial will speak about the social media crisis response to help tornado victims in Washington, Ill.

Tour

Our final tour of the year is Friday, April 17. We will tour Weber Shandwick and Golin. A $10 deposit is needed to secure your spot, which will be returned to you the morning of the tour to give to your driver for gas. Please bring cash for parking and money for lunch. Masquerade Social

We will hold a masquerade-themed social Saturday, April 11. The location and time is still to be determined.

We will hold a social Saturday, April 18 in Uptown Normal and Downtown Bloomington. You must be at least 21 years old to attend. Please sign up with your t-shirt size with Calysta Will. Shirts will cost between $10-15 depending on the number of attendees. The deadline for shirt orders is this Friday.

Charleen R. Crean Memorial Arts Award

Competitors must produce public performances that combine a musical component with two other mediums, including visual, performing, or digital arts.  There is an opportunity for students to win up to $750. Award recipients will be chosen April 23 in CVA 110. Judges will choose first, second, and third place winners. To apply for this award, please write a brief explanation of your project and submit it to Derick Downey at [email protected] by April 13.

Real World D.C.

ISU PRSSA has partnered with co-sponsor Illinois State University Student Government Association to proudly host guest speaker Randy DeCleene. 

Randy is a consultant based in Washington, D.C., with nearly 20 years experience and expertise in strategic communications, public affairs, public policy, government relations, marketing, branding, executive counsel, writing, and law. He is a partner at kglobal, a Washington, D.C., based full-service communications firm, which specializes in public affairs and public relations. With an extensive and impressive career, Randy has worked for the U.S. Army, Ketchum, Ogilvy Public Relations, and was the Deputy Press Secretary for the Office of Vice President Dick Cheney. 

At Real World D.C., Randy will speak about his career at kglobal, public relations in the political sphere, what life is like in Washington, and advice for young professionals with a healthy dose of wit and humor. Please bring your questions. 

This event is free and open to the public. Please come and invite your friends! Food and beverages will be provided.
